Biography of Yuki Tsunoda

Yuki Tsunoda is a Japanese F1 driver currently racing for the AlphaTauri team.

Born in Sagamihara, Japan, on May 11, 2000, Yuki is now 23 years old.

Tsunoda, who made his F1 debut in 2021, stands at a height of 5ft 3ins (1.59m) tall.

Yuki Tsunoda before F1

Tsunoda graduated from the Suzuka Circuit Racing School in 2016 and was enrolled as a member of the Honda Formula Dream Project.

In 2017 and 2018, Tsunoda raced with the team in the Japanese F4 championship.

In 2019, he moved to FIA F3 with Jenzer Motorsport. Tsunoda finished the year ninth and, given his time was spent with a team not renowned for fighting at the front in the category, was rewarded with an F2 seat for the following year.

Now racing with Carlin, Tsunoda had the team behind him to fully showcase his talents, and he did not disappoint.

After a shaky start to the season, something to be expected with any rookie, Tsunoda's breakthrough performance came in the sprint race at Silverstone when he took to the top step of the podium for the first time.

Feature race victories in Belgium and Bahrain propelled the Japanese driver to third in the overall standings, winning him not only a promotion to AlphaTauri for 2021 but also the Anthoine Hubert award for the rookie of the year.

Yuki Tsunoda in F1

In his rookie campaign in 2021, racing with AlphaTauri, the Red Bull and Honda-backed junior driver made an instant impact, setting the second-fastest time in pre-season testing behind only Max Verstappen.

After scoring points for a ninth-place finish in Bahrain, Tsunoda endured a tough four-race period without adding to his points haul. This run came to an end at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, where he finished seventh.

More incidents hampered Tsunoda's progress, and while the Japanese driver himself stated his surprise at being retained, strong showings at the back end of the season seemed to prove his talent was worthy of further opportunity.

The Japanese finished in 14th place in the drivers' standings, accumulating 32 points.

However, his sophomore season proved challenging, with a dip to 17th place and 12 points.

Moving into the 2023 season, Tsunoda secured 17 points, climbing back to 14th. The highlight of his season was his first-ever F1 fastest lap At the United States Grand Prix in Austin.

The Italian outfit announced during the season that both Tsunoda and his new teammate Daniel Ricciardo will race for the team in 2024, with their contracts set to expire at the end of the season.

As far as we know, Yuki is currently single, though he does have a hilarious bromance with ex-AlphaTauri teammate Pierre Gasly!

Yuki Tsunoda Helmet

As is to be expected from young drivers in the Red Bull stable, Tsunoda's helmet is dominated by the branding of team AlphaTauri.

The deep blue contrasts with the orange elsewhere in the design that also features floral detailing.

The number 22 is also displayed atop the helmet.
