Formule 1 herdenkt overleden marshal, teams en coureurs leven mee

Op het Britse circuit Brands Hatch kwam een marshal om het leven na een heftige crash. De Formule 1 is ontdaan.

Op het Britse circuit Brands Hatch sloeg het noodlot gisteren toe: na een heftige crash overleed een vrijwillige marshal. Ook in de Formule 1 betuigen zowel teams als coureurs massaal steun.

De crash op Brands Hatch was het gevolg van een botsing tussen twee coureurs in een evenement van de British Automobile Racing Club. Ze kwamen met elkaar in botsing, waarna één auto van de baan af vloog en het huisje van de marshal vol raakte. In een persbericht bevestigt de BARC het overlijden van de marshal. "We zijn bedroefd door het verlies van één geweldige vrijwillige marshal, die zoveel doen om deze sport plaats te kunnen laten vinden. Onze gedachten en de beste wensen zijn met de familie en vrienden van alle betrokkenen."

Het overlijden van de marshall raakt ook teams en coureurs in de Formule 1 niet onberoerd. Men plaatst dan ook massaal steunbetuigingen:

So saddened to hear that a volunteer marshal lost their life at Brands Hatch yesterday.
