Haas "need to make it work" with Schumacher and Mazepin

The two drivers again clashed at Monza

Guenther Steiner has insisted Haas "need to make it work" with Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin despite the pair's ongoing fractured relationship.

In an undeveloped back-of-the-grid car, more often than not the two rookies have only had each other to battle with this season, resulting in a number of incidents.

Following the Dutch Grand Prix, tensions reached breaking point, with Mazepin making accusations of foul play against his team-mate, leading to Ralf Schumacher claiming the Russian has "no place in F1", and Steiner left putting out the fires.

Addressing the continuing issue, Steiner said: “It is a working relationship.

"Even if they are not friends, I don’t really care what they do in their private life if they are friends or not, but on the race track they need to perform for the team.

“If you take them both individually, they agree with that. We just need to find an agreement when they are both in the room."

Further contact at Monza threatened to inflame the situation, but Steiner's message appeared to have an impact on his drivers as Mazepin was quick to apologise for his error.

“That is what we are working on but I think it is like there are a lot of team-mates that are not good friends," added Steiner.

“We just need to make it work. They are young and need to understand that. Then they can move on together in the same team.”
