Vettel escapes punishment for Suzuka 'false start'

No further action will be taken against Sebastian Vettel following his start off the line at the Japanese Grand Prix, after stewards deemed his actions at Lights Out to be within regulations.

The German started the race at Suzuka from pole position, but came off the line only to stop, and then quickly start again, which allowed Valtteri Bottas to overtake, claim P1, and eventually win.

He eventually finished second, but could potentially have been demoted down some positions after the FIA announced they would be analysing his start to see if it was prematurely initiated before the final light went out on the grid.

However, his P2 finish will stand after stewards found no problems in their review, which stated:

"The Stewards reviewed video evidence and the jump-start report based on the information from the FIA approved and supplied transponder fitted to each car. Whilst the video shows some movement that movement was within the acceptable tolerance of the F1 jump start system which formerly defines a jump start per Article36.13(a) of the FIA Formula One Sporting

"Regulations. Competitors are reminded that they have the right to appeal certain decisions of the Stewards, in accordance with Article 15 of the FIA International Sporting Code andArticle 9.1.1 of the FIA Judicial and Disciplinary Rules, within the applicable time limits."
