Vettel Canada penalty could get worse, warns Wolff
Ferrari are risking Sebastian Vettel being given an even stronger penalty by continuing to appeal against the sanction which cost him victory at the Canadian Grand Prix, according to Toto Wolff. Having abandoned an appeal process against Vettel's five-second penalty, Ferrari are instead looking into their 'right to review'.
Lewis Hamilton inherited the win after Vettel was penalised for squirming back onto the track in the path of the Mercedes driver.
Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto says Ferrari are still examining the incident as they look to have Vettel's penalty overturned.
However, Wolff says there remains a risk that Vettel could even be given a harsher penalty, potentially dropping further down the Canada classification.
"You can't undo the penalty," he told Osterreich newspaper.
"The worst case would be that the stewards, after looking at the data, find that more punishment is needed.
"I talked to Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto and he thinks what happened isn't 100 per cent worth a penalty. I think he is 100 per cent wrong.
"The fact is: Vettel flew off the track and came back. He looked in the rear-view mirror and pushed Lewis towards the wall.
"If Lewis did not put on the brakes, the two would have collided. That's why the penalty fits.
"OK, it's controversial, but in our sport you do not take prisoners."
