Gasly, Giovinazzi hit with Monaco grid penalties

Pierre Gasly and Antonio Giovinazzi were handed three-place rid penalties after qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix, both drivers taking punishments for obstructing rivals during Saturday's action. Gasly was punished for compromising Romain Grosjean in Q2, while Giovinazzi got in Nico Hulkenberg's way in Q1.

Although both Giovinazzi and Hulkenberg made it through Q1, the Alfa Romeo man was punished nevertheless.

The Italian will drop to 18th on the grid, hampering any hopes of scoring points for the first time in Formula 1.

Gasly's transgression was perhaps more impactful as he ruined a hot-lap for Grosjean, who was then consigned to elimination in Q2, while the Red bull man made it into the top-10 shootout.

Grosjean's furious team radio turned the air blue after he was knocked out, with Kevin Magnussen going through and qualifying sixth-fastest to show the full potential of Haas.

Magnussen will be bumped up a further place on the grid as Gasly also drops back three places to eighth. Former Red bull pair Daniel Ricciardo and Daniil Kvyat will also benefit from Gasly's punishment.
