Fernando Alonso and Lando Norris hit by Canadian GP penalties
Fernando Alonso and Lando Norris were both hit with post-race time penalties after enduring a tough Canadian Grand Prix.
Alonso started second but dropped down the order after failing to take advantage of two virtual safety-car periods to make a cheap pit stop.
But the Spaniard felt the stewards' wrath after moving across the track on multiple occasions to defend from Alfa Romeo driver Valtteri Bottas during the closing stages in Montreal.
The stewards' report read: "Between turns 10 and 12, on the penultimate lap of the race, car 14 made repeated changes of direction to defend against car 77 who had to lift at one point and briefly lost momentum.
"Whilst noting the driver’s point that at no stage was any point of car 77 alongside car 14, the Stewards consider this to be a clear breach of the above regulation.
"The Stewards therefore impose a 5 seconds time penalty in line with that imposed for a similar incident in Australia 2022."
The penalty drops Alonso to ninth and promotes Bottas and Guanyu Zhou.
Norris pinged for speeding
Norris also received a five-second penalty for speeding in the pit lane.
The McLaren driver was clocked doing 85km/h, exceeding the prescribed limit by 5km/h.
Norris is therefore classified third-last of the finishers with only Nicholas Latifi and Kevin Magnussen behind him.
