Haas to miss first morning of Bahrain test after freight delay

Haas to miss first morning of Bahrain test after freight delay

Guenther Steiner

Haas will miss the first morning of the second pre-season test in Bahrain after a freight delay, the team has confirmed.

Reports surfaced at the start of the week that the team may have been sat on the sidelines on Thursday due to a freight aircraft being grounded after suffering technical issues.

Whilst it was originally suggested Haas would make the start of the test, a further delay has ensured a change to its run plan on day one.

Confirming the delay on social media, a statement said: "The team's freight arrived late last night [Tuesday] to the circuit in Bahrain.

"This delay will impact our programme but we are targeting being out on track for the second session Thursday afternoon with Pietro Fittipaldi driving the VF-22."

The delay adds to a list of hardships experienced by the team in a troubled pre-season, with Fittipaldi taking testing duties alongside Mick Schumacher as a replacement for Nikita Mazepin is found.

Mazepin and his father, Dmitry, who owns former sponsor Uralkali, both saw their contracts terminated in the wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The VF-22 also encountered a number of issues during the first test in Barcelona, meaning the lost morning in Bahrain will compound the lack of track time.
