F1 in a "sweet spot" in the US - Wolff

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff is confident Formula 1 has found a "sweet spot" in the United States with further expansion mooted.

F1 appears to have cracked the US after 400,000 fans descended on the Circuit of the Americas across the three-day event.

In 2022, the sport will add a second race in the US with the Miami Grand Prix with a third event, potentially in Las Vegas, also being discussed.

After racing in front of partially or completely empty grandstands for the majority of the last two years, and not racing in The States last season due to the coronavirus pandemic, the increased interest was music to the ears of the sport.

"I find it great. I love to be in a traffic jam for one hour," said Wolff.

"It just shows we have the right ingredients for this sport to grow strong, not only in the US but everywhere."

Reflecting on the increased opportunity for F1 in the US, Wolff urged caution with the next step of growth crucial to get correct.

"It's a huge opportunity we have and if we get things right in the next couple of years, what is already one of the strongest sports in the world can be the absolute ...how can I say? Pinnacle is wrong to say because we've been that," Wolff added.

"But then you see the enormous growth potential of the sport in the US market.

"We're already doing very well elsewhere but here we seem to have hit the sweet spot and it's just the starting point.

"Miami coming in next year will be a blast and maybe we can add some other races too."
