Born This Day - Ayrton Senna
Ayrton Senna was a three-time Formula 1 world champion and 41-time race winner and, had tragedy not stuck at Imola in 1994, the Brazilian would have been celebrating his 60th birthday on March 21.
Known for his win at all costs mentality on the track, Senna was also famous for his selfless generosity away from the circuit, and the Instituto Ayrton Senna has since continued his legacy by helping millions of children in Brazil.
Senna became synonymous with the Monaco Grand Prix and his qualifying efforts at the circuit, particularly his 1988 effort in the dominant McLaren MP4/4, remain among the most spectacular footage in the 70-year history of the sport.
Many drivers, including six-time champion Lewis Hamilton still regard Senna as the best driver to have competed in Formula 1, and few would disagree with the Brazilian's opening lap in the 1993 European Grand Prix at Donington Park being regarded as the best lap ever.
Senna is the fifth most successful driver in terms of grand prix victories, sitting behind Michael Schumacher (91), Hamilton (84), Sebastian Vettel (54) and his great rival Alain Prost (51).
