Vettel: Ferrari have 'come alive'
A jubilant Sebastian Vettel celebrated his win in the Singapore Grand Prix and believes that the Ferrari car has 'came alive' in the past few weeks.
Vettel took advantage of the timing of Charles Leclerc's pit stop and after his team-mate emerged behind him, both of them fought through the runners on medium tyres, to reach the front with 20 laps remaining.
Thanks to the pace they set and the introduction of a trio of safety cars, Ferrari were able to cruise home to comfortably claim a one-two and for Vettel it was his first race victory in 392 days, when he won in Belgium in the 2018 season.
It was also Ferrari's third race victory in a row for the first time in 11 years, and speaking to David Coulthard post-race, he said of his win: "I'm very happy. It was a great race, a big congratulations to the team. The start of the season was difficult for us but in the last few weeks we have come alive.
"I really want to thank the fans. The last few weeks for me have not been the best but it's been incredible to get so much support, so many letters, so many messages. It gave me a lot of strength and believe and it's nice when it pays off."
Coulthard pushed Vettel to explain the team call on when to pit both drivers and the German confirmed it was the team, and not him, that chose to pit him when they did.
He added: "It was a very late call. I thought it was a bit early [to come in] because I didn't think we could make the tyres last in the second stint. But then I gave it everything in the out lap because I saw the two cars in front of me not pitting, especially Lewis, and I was very surprised to come out ahead.
"The corner before the pit entry I received the call. I don't know if someone pitted or all of a sudden the gap was big enough but yeah, for me obviously it worked today."
