Vettel happy in F1 despite Ferrari slump

So, no retirement just yet?

Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto says Sebastian Vettel remains "happy" in Formula 1 and committed to the Scuderia despite 2019's struggles.

Vettel's season has been a far cry from the expected title fight with Lewis Hamilton, and he trails the Mercedes star by 100 points at the halfway stage of the campaign.

After having victory at the Canadian Grand Prix taken away from him by a stewards' decision, Vettel expressed frustration with modern F1, and the weeks since have led to reports and suggestions that his retirement may be on the horizon.

However, Vettel insists he will at the very least see out his Ferrari contract, which runs to 2020.

While understanding his drivers' frustrations, Binotto says the German remains committed to his goal of becoming a world champion with Ferrari to follow in the footsteps of his idol Michael Schumacher.

"I think that Sebastian is very happy at the moment," Binotto said.

"He would've been happier if he was winning races and having more performance in the car.

"But I see that he is still really willing to race to win, I think it's his dream and unique objective to win with Ferrari.

"So, no doubt that he's looking at the future as a person with full commitment and interest."

Vettel is fourth in the drivers' championship, having finished 16th at the British GP last week after crashing with Max Verstappen when both drivers looked well-placed to take podium spots behind Hamilton.
