Grosjean suffering 'sleepless nights' after Haas exit

Frenchman remains without a drive for 2021

Romain Grosjean has revealed that losing his seat with Haas has led to his sleep suffering due to concerns over being unemployed during a global pandemic.

Grosjean and team-mate Kevin Magnussen announced their departures from Haas ahead of the Portuguese Grand Prix in October, bringing to an end a collective nine-year partnership with the team.

With much of the world facing financial uncertainty in the face of the Covid-19 crisis, the Frenchman claims he has been hit hard by the timing of the decision.

"If I am brutally honest I haven't been sleeping well for the last two weeks," he said. "It is a tough year for the world, for the economy. It is not a good year to be out of contract and out of the sport in any way."

As it is extremely unlikely Grosjean will be in F1 next season, unless he accepts a reserve or test role with another team, he has re-opened his mind to a switch to Indycar.

Grosjean had previously declared his reluctance to make the move to America's premier open-wheel series due to him being "scared" by the ovals.

The 34-year-old, however, has backed down from his stance after seeing the 2021 schedule only lists Texas Motor Speedway and Indianapolis as the only high-speed ovals, with a short-track oval in St Louis also on the 17-race calendar.

"I have been looking at Indycar," he revealed. "I have had some contact and some good ones.

"I kind of regret that I didn't check the calendar earlier. There are only two ovals, one short track. But it is something I would consider.

"I spoke with Marcus Ericsson when he went there and he really liked the different styles. The drivers have a big role to play and the car was fun and everyone has got a chance to win the race."

Referring to Haas' qualifying performance at Imola, Grosjean concluded: "A day like that, where me and Kevin did a bloody good quali lap and we are 16th and 17th, it is hard to swallow.

"Probably now I want to win races and have a chance, and win races where I can have fun, so IndyCar is on the list."
