FIA rules on Hulkenberg, Sainz, Stroll actions in Monza qualifying
Nico Hulkenberg was cleared by the Italian Grand Prix stewards over his actions in Italian GP qualifying.
Only Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz crossed the start line in time to set a lap in the closing stages of Q3, with seven drivers then unable to set a time. Kimi Raikkonen had earlier crashed out of the session.
Hulkenberg triggered much of the funny business after emerging from the pits first, only to pull off at Turn 1 and take to the escape road in an attempt to get other cars to drive past him as all sought the crucial tow around Monza.
The German was summoned by the stewards for "leaving the track without a justifiable reason", having seemingly not locked up his tyres at the corner.
However, the stewards report read: "In this case we are unable to determine that the driver deliberately left the track."
Hulkenberg, Sainz and Lance Stroll were also summoned to the stewards accused of "driving unnecessarily slowly" across the farcical out lap.
All three were cleared of any wrongdoing, but the stewards added: "The Stewards strongly recommend that the FIA expedite a solution to this type of situation."
