Charles Leclerc overtook Max Verstappen on track three times to take victory at the Austrian Grand Prix to reignite his title hopes.

Verstappen had started on pole but tyre degradation and strategy conspired against the championship leader as he had to settle for second.

Lewis Hamilton rounded out the podium - his third top-three in a row - to continue Mercedes' push to the top.

Leclerc records another first

Leclerc secured his first win since the Australian GP, ending a seven-race winless streak.

The Monégasque took his fifth win in Formula 1 and Ferrari’s first in Austria since 2003. It was also the first time Leclerc had taken victory having not started on pole.

The last time Ferrari recorded consecutive race wins was in Belgium-Italy- Singapore 2019.

Sainz DNF pain

Carlos Sainz has suffered the joint-most DNFs this season with four. Only Zhou Guanyu has retired on as many occasions.

Sprint jinx strikes again

Verstappen's failure to convert his sprint pole into victory on Sunday marked the fourth time a sprint winner didn't win the main race.

Coincidentally, Verstappen's triumph at Imola this year makes him the only driver to complete a sprint-grand prix double.

Verstappen hits highs and lows

Verstappen has stood on the Spielberg podium in every race he has finished at the venue since joining Red Bull in 2016.

The Dutchman had led 153 consecutive laps in Austria before Leclerc took the lead on Sunday. That broke the streak, which was the ninth-longest at any circuit in F1 history.

With his 68th career podium, Verstappen has equalled Rubens Barrichello for eighth on the all-time list.

The reigning champion now has the second-most podiums in the hybrid era, although remains 64 adrift of Lewis Hamilton.

Hamilton's consistency to pay off?

Hamilton is now the only driver to have reached the chequered flag at every race in 2022.

Ocon marks milestone with points

Esteban Ocon, in his 100th grand prix, secured fifth - his best result so far this season.

Alpine team-mate Fernando Alonso is currently on a six-race scoring streak which began at his home race in Spain.

Schumacher - Like father, like son

Mick Schumacher's sixth-place finish secured him eight points - the highest haul at a grand prix for a Schumacher since the 2012 Italian Grand Prix.

In a freaky bout of coincidence, Schumacher started ninth and finished sixth to take his first points at the circuit. His father Michael also claimed his first Austrian GP points by starting ninth and finishing sixth in 1997.

Haas on a roll

Haas has more points in the first 11 races of this season [34] than in their last three campaigns combined [31]

The team accumulated more points in this double header [19] than McLaren, Aston Martin, Alfa Romeo, AlphaTauri and Williams combined [18].

Sixth and eighth is Haas' second-best combined result, only bettered by finishing fourth and fifth at the same venue four years ago. It was the first time the team had scored double points in consecutive races since the final two grands prix of 2018.
