Verstappen claims "I never get presents" from FIA after Qatar penalty

Verstappen claims "I never get presents" from FIA after Qatar penalty

Max Verstappen has suggested a lack of affection from the FIA race stewards and quipped "I never get presents from them" after his grid penalty for the Qatar Grand Prix.

The championship leader shrugged off the punishment to clinch second place behind rival Lewis Hamilton and claim the fastest lap bonus point in the process to hold his advantage at eight points.

The five-place penalty was given after a controversial end to qualifying, with Verstappen adjudged to have disrespected a double-waved yellow flag despite a distinct lack of clarity on FIA GPS and signalling channels.

Reacting to the penalty post-race, Verstappen told Sky Sports F1: "Well no surprises there, I knew already [Saturday night] that I never get presents from them [the FIA] so it is ok.

"But in the end, once I knew we were starting seventh, I was just very motivated to move ahead and that is exactly what we did.

"We had a good first lap and then after five laps we were second again and I just tried to keep the gap small throughout the whole race so they couldn't do an extra stop.

"Again, we had a fastest lap at the end so happy with that."

Asked if he genuinely believed he was hard-done-by by the stewards, he replied: "I don't want to talk about it too much because I don't want to give anyone the pleasure to talk about it even more but it is, of course, not great."

The penalty came during a weekend shrouded by political intrigue with off-track battles taking place between Red Bull and Mercedes team principals Christian Horner and Toto Wolff.

Horner was handed an official warning by the FIA after his response to Verstappen's penalty contravened the International Sporting Code, but asked if the off-track drama was distracting, the Dutchman replied: "Racing is not complicated.

"There is a brake pedal and a throttle pedal and a steering wheel.

"There is a lot of show around but as drivers, we know what to do and anything else around it, that's not really relevant for me, I just have to focus on my job."

What do you think?

Wasn't Verstappen given the Belgium Grand Prix victory as a present...

That is called 'applying the rules'.

There wasn't the option to favour anyone anything

You wouldn't have had an issue with it when LH had qualified 1st.

You love the rules when they benefit Max and say "racing incident" when he breaks them. 16 other drivers think Max gets away with more than anyone. That's why they kept the meeting going to quiz Masi. Max never had a question. He knows he's going to cheat and doesn't care. He won't care until he hurts someone.

Thank you for removing the racist reply to my comment, but as you see from others what I had said was relevant to the topic and should have remained there too.

Verstappen has got away with a lot this year, nearly killing Lewis in Monza, and still he doesn't accept responsibility or even believe what little punishment he's received is just. I've never seen any other driver get away with as much as he has, ever or even combined!

I should have added...

He's got the speed. He's got the car control. But he's got a temper, and has missed out on honing his race craft in the lower feeder series to F1. He doesn't need to crash in to everybody.

But he really doesn't need the arrogance and self-entitlement that Red Bull are worried about tackling.

He has the key ingredients to be one of the greatest drivers in F1, but this is his sixth season and he's still acting like a petulant child who doesn't like being told off for bullying.

You keep repeating this over and over again

There was a gap, and Max went in it.

LH was going to be passed, so he closed the gap while Max was besides him

Max didn't let himself push off the track, causing LH to bump into Max.

Result: car accident.

Than it was Lewis trying to drive away, while Max was beside the car.

Using your words (not mine): Lewis tried to kill Max with his attempt to drive away.

Oh, and then followed with your stuff like: ban Lewis for life.

Sleep well Symanski

are you actually blind or just out to get comments of any kind? verstappen was way too far behind in the second part of the chicane and was never going to be able to brake in time to get out of it if he needed to. worse still he didnt even try to take to the escape part of that chicane so was always going to crash or force lewis off the track, you know, like he did in brazil! pretty sure i have suggested this to you already but just in case i havent, if you are going to comment then perhaps you should get your facts right first. or not, and look like you dont know what you are talking about, either way...........

Your version doesn't seem to align with what everybody else seen of Max, Monza, Silverstone, or Brazil.

The problem with people defending Verstappen it's always that other drivers should simply part ways. As if Moses is coming through...

Max thinks he doesn't get "presents"? Hey Max, I can think of 2 phrases of presents you have gotten throughout your F1 career in incidents you have caused. 1) "No Investigation Needed" and 2) "Racing Incident". You have received those presents more than anyone else on the grid.

Verstappen was joking good lord. The respones on here are weak. Hate never brings out the best in people so ugly. Also as a side not the stewards might want to make sure all their equipment is working cause drivers dash and lights went yellow then immediately back to green.

Lewis took his penalty for yellow flags and soldiered on. Max and RB always have to whine. The replies here adverse to Max are strong and well thought out. The Max defenders are weak and have shown they think everyone else should just pull over and let Max through. Gee, what racing that would be lol
