Grosjean discharged from hospital after horror smash

Grosjean was in hospital for three nights

Haas driver Romain Grosjean has been discharged from hospital after receiving treatment for burns sustained on his hands in the Bahrain Grand Prix.

On lap one of Sunday's race, Grosjean miraculously survived a 137mph collision with the barriers that saw his Haas VF20 burst into flames as it was torn in two.

Initially treated at the on-site medical centre, the Frenchman was then flown to the Bahrain Defence Force hospital where he was treated for burns to the back of his hands and checked for possible broken ribs.

Miraculously, after just three nights in care, the Frenchman has been discharged from hospital, although Haas has already confirmed he will not race the Sakhir Grand Prix this weekend with reserve driver Pietro Fittipaldi replacing him for the weekend.

An update from the team reads: "Haas F1 Team driver Romain Grosjean was discharged from the care of the Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) Hospital at 10:30 a.m. local time Wednesday.

"Grosjean spent three nights in hospital following Sunday’s incident at the Bahrain Grand Prix. Grosjean will continue private treatment for the burns suffered on the back of his hands and will remain in Bahrain for the time being.

"On behalf of Romain Grosjean and the entire Haas F1 Team we extend our thanks to all who have tended to him at the BDF Hospital."
