Romain Grosjean miraculously survived one of the worst incidents witnessed in Formula 1 for many years.
Grosjean somehow managed to escape from a fiery explosion after his Haas had ripped in two upon impact with a retaining barrier on the opening lap of Sunday's Bahrain Grand Prix.
The reasons behind why the Frenchman suffered nothing more than to his hands are many, and all thanks to the numerous innovations introduced into F1 over the years.
