Roberts appointed as acting team principal with Williams

Roberts will initially be in charge for this weekend's Tuscan GP at Mugello

Williams has appointed Simon Roberts as acting team principal following the recent decision of Claire Williams to step down as deputy team principal.

Roberts joined the team earlier this year in the role of 'Managing Director of Formula One', with responsibility for the F1 technical, operations and planning functions.

Upon his new appointment, Roberts said: “I am delighted to be announced as acting team principal for Williams during this transitional period.

"It is an exciting time ahead for the team, a new era for Williams and one that I am excited to be playing a part in. I look forward to the challenge ahead as we look to take the team back to the front of the grid.”

Following over a decade working within the automotive industry, Roberts began his F1 career in late 2003 when he was appointed as operations director and general manager with McLaren.

Roberts then joined Force India six years later as chief operating officer, with responsibility for all team operations from concept through to the track.

The role was shortlived as Roberts returned to McLaren in 2010 as operations director and a member of its executive team before stepping up to COO in 2017 with responsibility for engineering and factory operations.

Roberts' first race in charge will be this weekend's Tuscan Grand Prix at Mugello.
