McLaren can learn from Bayern Munich's stunning success this season - Seidl
Seidl is a lifelong supporter of the team
McLaren team principal Andreas Seidl believes he can learn from the exploits of his footballing heroes at Bayern Munich following the team's remarkable achievements this season.
Up until early December, Bayern was off the pace in the Bundesliga after surprisingly losing four matches up until that point, only to astonishingly then win 29 and draw one of their remaining matches to claim an eighth domestic league title and Champions League double.
Proud Bayern supporter Seidl feels there is a lesson that can be learned from Hans-Dieter Flick's side that can be applied to what he is trying to achieve at McLaren
"It's not a secret that I'm a big fan of football as well," said Seidl.
"What I simply like in football is this team aspect. It's fascinating to see how teams, after a bad start, suddenly find a turnaround.
"I can see how Bayern Munich did that this year. It's something I follow closely, as far as possible from the outside.
"It was simply great to see this, also with the new coach, how they got together again as a team, how they found this team spirit again which looked like it kept them going from victory to victory."
Although football and Formula 1 appear vastly different on the surface, Seidl added: "What I like in football, similar to other sports, is what I like in Formula 1, it's a team sport - of course.
"Formula 1 is a team sport of 600, 700 people, as I consider every single member of the team a member of the sports team, not just the two drivers.
"It's great to see, once you get going, in terms of spirit inside the team, you can unlock this energy. It doesn't matter if it's a football team of 11 players, including all the staff around, or if it's a Formula 1 team, that's simply what I like.
"I like to see all these emotions, this rollercoaster you go through during games, during race weekends, with all these disappointments, these spikes also in the other direction of joy, this feeling of having achieved something together after putting in a lot of hard work as a team.
"That's the stuff that's fascinated me."
