Two-race Silverstone deal struck for Formula 1
Two-race Silverstone deal struck for Formula 1
Formula 1 and Silverstone have reached a deal that will see two races held on the historic venue in 2020, but questions over the quarantine period remain.
The races, which will be held behind closed doors, are expected to be the third and fourth races on the revised calendar. These would be held on July 26 and August 2, the events following consecutive races in Austria, the first of which due to take place on July 5.
“I am delighted to confirm that Silverstone and Formula 1 have reached an agreement in principle to host two races behind closed doors this summer," Silverstone managing director Stuart Pringle told the BBC.
“However these races will be subject to government approval, as our priority is the safety of all involved and strict compliance with Covid-19 regulations.
“I would like to thank all our fans who have been so supportive throughout this and to assure them we are determined to do all we can to help Formula 1 put on a show this summer.”
Yet to be introduced, the UK government are in the process of implementing a 14-day isolation period for all international arrivals.
Formula 1 is in talks with UK officials to try to secure an exemption from this regulation but, if it is not possible to achieve this, a two-week period without racing would need to be observed ahead of any racing.
