Sir Frank Williams in "a stable condition" after being admitted to hospital

Ian Parkes

Sir Frank Williams has been admitted to hospital where he is reported to be in a stable condition.

The 78-year-old recently stepped down from his role as team principal following the sale of his illustrious marque to American investment company Dorilton Capital.

In 2016, Williams contracted pneumonia following which his presence at races sharply declined, although he had relinquished much of his responsibilities to daughter Claire a few years previously after she was appointed deputy team principal.

With regard to his latest condition, a statement from the Williams family read: “Sir Frank Williams has recently been admitted to hospital where he is currently in a stable condition.

“Frank’s medical condition is a private matter and therefore the family will not be releasing any further details at this time.

“We ask for you to respect the family’s privacy. The team will release a further update in due course. Thank you.”

Via a message on Twitter, Willliams Racing wished one of its co-founders "a speedy recovery"
