Russell insists "you get what you deserve" as Mercedes decision looms
Mercedes is expected to decide between either Bottas or Russell to join Hamilton next year
George Russell believes "you get what you deserve" amid mounting speculation over a potential place at Mercedes for 2022.
Russell's future in F1 is uncertain, although he has consistently maintained the only two options for him are Mercedes and Williams, with the Briton this week playing down reported interest from Red Bull.
Mercedes must decide whether it would like to keep the harmonious relationship between Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas or whether it wants to promote a driver with Russell's aspirations to shake up the line-up.
Asked as to his mindset as the rumour-mill churns, Russell replied: "Business as usual to be honest.
"Very relaxed about everything. What will be will be, one way or another and everything, in the long run, has a way of working out for the best.
"Every single situation I try to take in my stride. I never believe in good luck or bad, you get what you deserve and get out of life what you put into it. My aspirations and goals are clear.
"I want to become world champion and I want to find myself in the car that will give me the best opportunity to achieve that."
Russell expecting decision in summer break
F1 enters its annual summer shutdown after this weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix, with the Hungaroring a track that has suited Williams more than most in recent years despite the team's struggles.
Russell is adamant his focus remains on securing his first top-10 finish for the team since joining in 2019 despite the pending decision over his future.
"There will be a decision made over the summer break," he indicated. "Whether there will be anything announced with regards to my future, that is another topic.
"These things are never an easy process for any driver or any team, regardless if you are changing team or staying with the same team, it is always a lengthy process.
"I am confident there will be a decision made in the summer but when that will be announced, who knows.
"All I am focused on is going out and having fun this weekend and trying to score some points."
