Schumacher wishes he 'could help' fix Haas after Monaco crash
Schumacher missed out on the opportunity to qualify at Monaco after a heavy crash in FP3
Mick Schumacher conceded he wished he could have helped his Haas mechanics rebuild his car after the crash that forced him to sit out Monaco Grand Prix qualifying.
The German will start last after a heavy incident through Casino Square in the dying stages of final practice left too much work for the team to do in order to fix the damage ahead of qualifying.
"These cars are so complex," said Schumacher. "There is very little I could do because if I could help, I would have loved to, I would stand more in the way than help.
"I spent most of the quali with the guys trying to help where I could but they are really professional and know that my profession is driving the car. I will try and fix it at some point but I don't know it that well yet so I will get my knowledge up."
Schumacher had impressed throughout final practice and was sitting in 14th before his crash ended the session, with team-mate Nikita Mazepin also showing increased confidence in the Haas.
Despite the missed opportunity to mix with the Williams again in qualifying, Schumacher insisted there was plenty to prepare for ahead of what could be a chaotic race at the Principality.
"It was very unfortunate because we were on a pretty good roll," he added. "We had a pretty good pace and were quite confident in the car up to the point, arguably too confident, pushing quite hard to exploit the limit.
"At that corner, it is quite easy to make the mistake. Looking back at it, I have to ask myself was it worth it? Probably the answer would be no but nonetheless, there is a massive amount that I have learnt through all the free practices, all the procedures.
"In the end, you can say nothing is lost because you are going to a race like Monaco which is a very special race because lots of things can happen.
"Errors are easily made here, that is not only for me but for everyone on the grid. We will go into the race open-minded, have lots of strategies we can play with and hopefully, we can be in the mix and hopefully, we can be ahead of somebody."
