Grosjean will "never say never" over F1 return
Grosjean has made the switch to IndyCar for 2021
Romain Grosjean has insisted he will "never say never" over a potential Formula 1 return as a 'super-sub'.
Nico Hülkenberg and Jack Aitken were both required to stand-in for Covid-stricken drivers last year, and with the pandemic's influence expected to be prominent again this season, it is highly likely additional 'subs' may be required.
Grosjean, who will drive in IndyCar this season, believes he is one of the best people for the job should a team need a last-minute stand-in due to his experience with current F1 machinery.
“I think [my F1 career] is a closed book, but never say never," he said.
"If there are any good opportunities in Formula 1 then I would be more than happy to jump in. I have got the experience. I think I can adapt myself to the car.
"We have seen with Pierre Gasly recently being positive to Covid that it is still around. So there is always a risk that a driver may not compete in a race.
"Then I think the most recent out of Formula 1 - Kevin [Magnussen], myself and Alex Albon - we have got the experience, we know the most recent cars, could expect to get a call."
Grosjean's time in F1 came to a premature end due to the injuries sustained in his horrific crash at last year's Bahrain Grand Prix.
The Frenchman pointed to the accident as the driving force behind his realisation that there was more to racing than the series he had enjoyed for 10 seasons.
"One thing I have learned from my accident is life is short," he explained. "I want to have the choice to say no to something.
"If it is being in Formula 1 to barely go out of Q1 once or twice a year, I think that chapter is closed for me and I would much rather look at other places that I can go and race and potentially try to win races.”
