Hamilton’s incredible world victory map
27 different GP wins at 28 different circuits
Lewis Hamilton has now won races at an incredible 28 different circuits, a stat that could become 29 if he adds Imola to his list by winning this weekend’s Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
The Mercedes driver, who overtook Michael Schumacher’s all-time record of 92 race wins with his first victory in Portugal on Sunday, has ticked off more wins in different countries than most people have visited.
As seen in our map of Hamilton’s world of wins, his most successful destination has been the Hungaroring, in Hungary – ironically one of F1’s slowest circuits – where he has achieved an astonishing eight victories.
His next favourite place to visit, in terms of wins, is Montreal, the scene of his first F1 win in 2007. At the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, he has clocked up seven victories, including four wins in his last five visits.
The 35-year-olf likes to win close to home, too, and his other seven-win haul has come just 50 miles from his Stevenage birthplace. Silverstone was where he won arguably his best race in 2008 and six more victories have followed in the last seven years.
Hamilton has also won the Chinese and United States Grands Prix six times each, the latter including victories at two different circuits - one at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and five at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA).
The unusual races in this year’s Covid-hit calendar have allowed him to add four new grands prix to his list – the Styrian, Tuscan, Eifel and Portuguese – although he had already won at two of the venues, the Red Bull Ring and the Nürburgring.
Bizarrely, he has never won a ‘European Grand Prix’, although he has won at circuits that have hosted that race – Baku, where he won the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in 2018, and the Nürburgring, where he won the Eifel Grand Prix this year.

There are just four tracks where he has raced in F1 but not won – Magny Cours, Valencia, Korea and India – although he has won in both France and Spain, so in terms of countries it is just two that have eluded him.
Ironically, Schumacher’s most successful track was one of those circuits where Hamilton has raced but never won as Magny Cours was the German driver’s hottest spot, and is where he took his own eight-race haul.
Like Hamilton, Schumacher also clocked up seven wins at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve but his other seven-win destination was Imola (San Marino GP), which is another track and grand prix Hamilton has never won.
The only other tracks where Schumacher has won but Hamilton has not are Aida (Pacific GP, Japan), Jerez (European GP, Spain), Estoril (Portuguese GP) and Buenos Aires (Argentine GP) – although Hamilton joined F1 long after those races had dropped off the calendar.
