Norris on Hubert: It could have been me

Lando Norris said thoughts turned to how Anthoine Hubert's fate could have befallen him after the Frenchman was killed in a crash in Formula 2's race at Spa on Saturday.

Hubert died after a high-speed collision with Juan Manuel Correa, who is in hospital with leg factures and a spinal injury.

Several drivers spoke of their anguish over the events. Charles Leclerc's celebrations were muted after winning his first F1 race, while Daniel Ricciardo admitted he had considered withdrawing from the grand prix.

Norris said that although the event is rare, he races knowing something similar could happen to him.

"I didn't feel great ahead of the race. What happened here on Saturday could happen to any of us. It could have been me last year racing in Formula 2," Norris said.

"When you think like that, it starts shaking you. Maybe some people take it better than others, but I didn't take it too well. At the end of the day, my job is to race for the team. I still need to live my life, move on and do things that sometimes I don't want to do.

"I wanted to race, but at the same time I felt so sorry for everyone involved. I don't even like talking about it. He was a racer like we all are but he was just the unlucky guy.

"It was very unexpected, and something that is so rare, but at the same time it could still happen in Formula 1."

Norris was set to finish fifth at the Belgian GP, only to suffer engine failure on the last lap and drop to 11th in the final classification.
