F1 2020 driver line-up as it stands

Formula 1's 2020 campaign is coming ever closer as teams attempt to make their mark in the sport in the last season before drastic regulation changes.

With the car launches set to come thick and over the next short period, we already know the 20 drivers who will get behind the wheel for their respective teams.

Here's the status of all 20 spots on the grid for 2020 so far…

MERCEDES

Lewis Hamilton - Contracted until 2020
Valtteri Bottas - Contracted until 2020

Verdict: Mercedes stuck by Bottas through a winless 2018, so the Finn taking two victories in the first four rounds of 2019 was likely enough to see him retained alongside his world champion team-mate once again next year, despite Toto Wolff toying with the idea of promoting Esteban Ocon from his reserve role.

FERRARI

Sebastian Vettel - Contracted until 2020
Charles Leclerc - Contracted until 2024

Verdict: Vettel's struggles have prompted wild suggestions that he could leave Ferrari by the end of the year, or retire from F1 entirely. However, both the four-time world champion and team-mate Leclerc are contracted for next season and are expected to remain together.

RED BULL

Max Verstappen - Contracted until 2023
Alexander Albon - Contracted until 2020

Verdict: Verstappen will remain the focal point of Red Bull for many years, the team hopes. He will be partnered by Albon who impressed enough in his half-season with the team after being promoted from Toro Rosso to replace the underperforming Pierre Gasly.

RENAULT

Daniel Ricciardo - Contracted until 2020
Esteban Ocon - Contracted until 2021

Verdict: Renault have so far struggled to match the lofty target of hunting down the top three that came with the signing of Ricciardo, but he will remain next season. Cyril Abiteboul perhaps had his hand forced by Toto Wolff to draft in Ocon, 12 months after reneging on a gentleman's agreement to bring in the Frenchman.

HAAS

Kevin Magnussen - Contracted until 2020
Romain Grosjean - Contracted until 2020

Verdict: Magnussen's admirable consistency in 2018 landed the Dane a two-year deal and he continues to outshine his team-mate, despite Haas' race-pace woes. Haas have opted for consistency in a bid to turn their fortunes around, with Grosjean fighting off the threat of Nico Hulkenberg.

MCLAREN

Carlos Sainz - Contracted until 2020
Lando Norris - Contracted until 2020

Verdict: As McLaren's revival has shown genuine signs of coming to fruition in 2019, the team became the first to confirm its 2020 line-up ahead of the British Grand Prix, with Norris and Sainz to continue the fine work they have done in the early months of their partnership.

RACING POINT

Sergio Perez - Contracted until 2022
Lance Stroll - Contracted on multi-year deal

Verdict: Lance Stroll's seat might be the safest in F1, and Perez's long-term partnership with the team through thick and thin will continue for another three years with the Mexican securing a long-term deal of his own - rare currency in F1's midfield.

ALFA ROMEO

Kimi Raikkonen - Contracted until 2020
Antonio Giovinazzi - Contracted until 2020

Verdict: Raikkonen has adapted seamlessly into life in F1's midfield and will be back for more as a 40-year-old in 2020. Giovinazzi has steadily improved as the year has gone on, regularly out-qualifying the Finn to earn another year in F1. If Mick Schumacher can pick up his performances in F2 next year, however, the Italian will need to improve significantly to keep his seat you feel.

TORO ROSSO

Daniil Kvyat - Contracted until 2020
Pierre Gasly - Contracted until 2020

Verdict: Kvyat may be the perfect mentor for the demoted Gasly, having gone through a similar process himself and the pair will be in tandem once again in 2020, with the Frenchman having enjoyed confidence-boosting performances back out of the glare of the senior Red Bull outfit.

WILLIAMS

George Russell - Contracted until 2021
Nicholas Latifi - Contracted until 2020

Verdict: Although Williams were abysmal in 2019, Russell has shown glimpses of his skill and consistency, especially in his vast out-performance of Robert Kubica. Latifi will offer a new challenge next year after a season serving as development driver. After confirming he will leave Williams, Kubica has been tipped to race in DTM and perform simulator duties for other F1 teams.
