Leclerc facing investigation for VSC infringement - penalty incoming?

Charles Leclerc may be at risk of a grid penalty for the Monaco Grand Prix after committing an infringement under the Virtual Safety Car in third practice on Saturday. The VSC was brought out by the other Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel crashing into the barriers at Ste Devote.

A message from race control read: "VSC procedure infringement involving car 16 (LEC) will be investigated after the session."

If Leclerc is found to have been speeding under the VSC he will likely face a three-place grid drop.

Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo both served grid penalties last year for speeding under red flag conditions.

Crashing in the opening stages of FP3 meant Vettel would not run at the best time in the session, putting him on the back foot for qualifying as well.

The Scuderia have looked a good chunk off the pace of Mercedes so far this weekend, with Max Verstappen seemingly the closest rival to the Silver Arrows pair Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.
