McLaren not expecting "miracles" this season
McLaren chief Zak Brown has claimed that the team will continue to try and get the best out of their current vehicle and make improvements upon it, but warned against any "miracles" taking place for the remainder of the 2018 season as the team goes through an overhaul.
The team are set to revamp their driving line-up for 2019 with Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz to replace Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne.
The 2018 season has been underwhelming for McLaren who are currently sixth in the constructor rankings without claiming a win or even a podium position as of yet. They ditched Honda in favour of Renault at the start of this season, and Brown has insisted they will continue to work on car improvements even if it will be different drivers behind the wheel next year.
“I think other teams have developed at a faster pace than ourselves,” Brown confessed.
“I think it appears we’ve gone backwards. I think the reality is that everyone else has gone forwards, but in Formula 1, if you’re not going forwards, you’re going backwards.

“We knew Spa and Monza-type circuits would be our absolute weak point in the car, which has proven to be the case. We’re not giving up on developing because we’re identifying the issues and want to see if we’re able to solve them for learnings for 2019.
“We’ll continue to push on this car, but unfortunately we’ve produced an extremely poor race car that is not that responsive to changes, which I think tells you inherently, we just don’t have a good race car.
Ultimately, Brown asked fans not to expect any miraculous improvements between now and the end of the campaign.
“ would expect, unfortunately, similar type of results, maybe a little bit more circuit-specific," the McLaren chief continued.
“I wouldn’t expect any miracles.”
