Reports of F1 street race cancellations "completely wrong"

Reports suggested races in Monaco, Azerbaijan and Canada could be at risk

Formula 1 has denied speculation suggesting races in Monaco, Azerbaijan and Canada could once again be cancelled as "completely wrong".

Last year saw 13 races cancelled as the world struggled to adapt to the pressures of the coronavirus pandemic.

However, after racing began with the Austrian Grand Prix in July, F1 successfully completed a 17 race calendar with the sport putting in place strict social distancing and testing measures to ensure the safety of personnel.

Monaco, Azerbaijan and Canada were among the races cancelled last year, but speculation surrounding further cancellations this time around has been categorically denied by F1.

A spokesperson for the sport told GPFans Global: “We have set out the details of the revised 2021 calendar and there are no other changes. The suggestion street races will not take place are completely wrong.”

The calendar has already been revised once for the coming season with the planned season opener in Australia pushed back to November 21, now being contested as the third-last race of the year.

The Bahrain Grand Prix will now host the first race of the year for the first time since 2010 with pre-season testing pushed back a week and moved also to Bahrain as a result.

The Chinese Grand Prix is currently postponed with officials hoping to secure a date in the already congested second half of the season.
