Schumacher race number revealed and why he chose it
Mick Schumacher has confirmed he will race with the number 47 after the German was announced as a Haas driver for the 2021 Formula season.
The 21-year-old, who has signed a multi-year contract with the team, has revealed the number holds special significance to him.
Explaining his selection, Schumacher said: “Basically, it’s a bit of a funny mix of things but I think one, and primarily, it’s because four and seven are two of the numbers that I really like.
"Obviously, I had four when I was F3 champion and the seven because the number seven is very close to me as well."
With both claimed, four by Lando Norris and seven by Kimi Raikkonen, the German added: “As both of them were taken, I think 47 was the best choice and then, at the end as well which underlined it, was the fact that if you calculated all the birthdays of our family together, it would equal 47.
“So it was a pretty nice feature to it and I think it just underlined that we should choose that number.”
After explaining the significance of the number four, Schumacher was asked if the seven was a nod to his father Michael's record of seven world titles.
“Definitely yes, seven is partly because of that but it is also just a number that I genuinely like," continued Schumacher. "It’s just personally, and somehow in our family, [a number] that we like.”
