Vettel nears 2018 best as Ferrari smash Mercedes: Canadian GP FP3 Results
Sebastian Vettel ended FP3 at the Canadian Grand Prix as the fastest man on track, having blasted around the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve just a tenth of a second slower than his pole position lap time from a year ago as Ferrari continue to impress.
Ferrari have now seen each of their drivers top a session heading into qualifying, with Charles Leclerc having taken FP2 honours, and the Monegasque was just a tenth down on Vettel's top time in this segment.
Mercedes' pace deficit on the straights has been laid bare across practice, with Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas four tenths and seven tenths adrift of Vettel respectively.
Max Verstappen and Pierre Gasly were a second off the headline pace, with Red Bull perhaps looking over their shoulder to lock out the third row – former driver Daniel Ricciardo suggesting he could muscle in on their action after clocking just a tenth slower than Gasly.
Aside from the impressive battle at the front, home fans will have been disappointed to see Lance Stroll's Racing Point burst into flames due to a hydraulic leak. The team will face a bit of a rush to get the car ready for qualifying.
