Leclerc takes Ferrari above Mercedes after Hamilton hits wall: Canadian GP FP2 Results
After the despair and dread of FP1, came much greater promise of an exciting weekend ahead in the second practice session for the Canadian Grand Prix as Ferrari upped their pace to lead Mercedes. Charles Leclerc topped the timesheets, while Lewis Hamilton's session was curtailed early after he hit the wall.
Hamilton sustained damage to the rear of his Mercedes after getting sideways coming out of Turn 9 at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
The champion appears unlikely to pick up a penalty at this stage, but will have to recover on Saturday after losing an hour of track time, including the crucial long-run simulations.
Max Verstappen also tapped the wall coming out of the final corner, although it only served to scrub off his best lap as both Red Bulls finished outside the top 10 – a fact much more worrying for the Frenchman.
