Aston Martin label F1 regulations "scary" and "nerve-wracking"

Aston Martin chief technical officer Andrew Green and performance director Tom McCullough have described F1's rule changes as "nerve-wracking" and "scary".

The sport has undergone a complete revamp of machinery with the new-for-2022 regulations taking aerodynamic components away from the top faces of the cars, instead opting for a ground-effect-centred regulation set.

Aston Martin launched its AMR22 challenger on Thursday [February 10] marking the first time a legitimate iteration of a team's car had been revealed, after Haas used digital renders to launch its livery and Red Bull used a show car.

Asked during the launch to explain the difference between a points-scoring car and a winning machine, Green replied: "I wish I could!

"I think what we are seeing here is the first iteration of the AMR22. We are on a steep learning curve and everyone is going to be on a steep learning curve. No one is going to have all of the answers yet.

"We are going to see the car develop highly over the coming season and forge the way for 2023 as well. It is an exciting time to be in Formula 1, it is also quite nerve-wracking."

McCullough, who will ensure every facet of the team's performance is optimised when getting to grips with the AMR22, added: "I think from an engineering point of view, there is nothing more exciting than a huge regulation change.

"It is quite scary at times too. We have been having to go back to the drawing board with a clean sheet of paper in so many areas.

"It has been fantastic fun working with the great team of people we have back at Silverstone evolving into what we see now, that will be developed quickly during the season.

"This launch car will change quickly but it is great to be stood in front of it."
