Aston Martin "still negotiating" Fallows Red Bull release
Aston Martin team principal Otmar Szafnauer hopes to have new technical director Dan Fallows in position "ASAP" although an exact date is still being negotiated.
In June, Aston Martin announced the signing of Dan Fallows but things were quickly complicated as Red Bull team principal Christian Horner claimed the team would need to wait "a couple of years" to get its man with his contract running to the middle of 2023.
The topic has since fallen silent but Szafnauer hopes now to have Fallows in position during the first quarter of 2022.
“Our aim is to get him to start ASAP and at some time in the first quarter of next year," said Szafnauer.
"So if it’s the start of next season, that is in the first quarter of next year. Hopefully, in that timeframe, we will be able to have him start.”
Szafnauer added: “In the background, we are still negotiating on Dan’s start time or date and once that is known, we will let everybody know.”
Another Aston Martin signing announced in June was ex-Afla Romeo chief designer Luca Furbatto who will become the team's engineering director.
“Luca will be with us within weeks," confirmed Szafnauer. "Yes, he was announced but just like everybody, they’ve got their notice periods to work out so within weeks Luca will be free to start with us."
Since a flurry of appointments earlier this year, Aston Martin has fallen considerably quieter over its signings.
Asked if this was due to things slowing down, Szafnauer explained: “No, things haven’t slowed down in the recruitment but unless they’re very senior, we don’t announce everybody."
