Schumacher insists mistakes are "important" in F1 learning process

Mick Schumacher has stressed his belief that making mistakes is "important" in his rookie season as this is how lessons are learned.

Schumacher missed qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix after crashing out in the latter stages of final practice.

The error was a repeat his Monaco crash which also saw the German fail to take part in qualifying.

Both Schumacher and team-mate Nikita Mazepin have been involved in incidents during their first year in the sport but the 22-year-old insisted mistakes would benefit him for the rest of his career.

"I think overall I am quite happy [with the first half of the season]," said Schumacher.

"Obviously, it is quite tough because we knew it was going to be difficult for us to maybe fight for points but we have had a Q2 appearance. That is a very big highlight of mine.

"It is important for me to do mistakes because, from mistakes, you learn."

Schumacher expects "tough" end to season

After the summer shutdown, 12 races are scheduled to take the season to its conclusion.

With Haas planted to the foot of the table, Schumacher is looking to the small victories to drive forward for the remainder of the year.

"It is tough but still we have to see it in the way that even with a car that is underdeveloped, we were able to go into Q2 so it is those little moments we are fighting for," he said.

"Hopefully we are able to have some weekends that are better and we have to accept the weekends that are worse for us."
