Vettel expecting high levels of perfection for second races in Austria and Silverstone
Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel is expecting perfection levels to soar when Formula 1 completes double-header races at the same circuit.
For the first time in F1 history this season, a track will host back-to-back grands prix, with two races to start the campaign at Austria's Red Bull Ring followed by a further two at Silverstone in early August, sandwiched by a visit to Hungary.
The assumption is many lessons will be learned from the first race that will stand all teams and drivers in good stead for the second.
Four-time F1 champion Vettel is certainly anticipating the follow-up grand prix to be of a far higher standard than the one a week previously.
“I have no experience of heading back to the same track just a week after and having a second race, and I’ve been around for a while,” said Vettel in a Ferrari interview.
“I guess the level of perfection will be even higher the second weekend, the level of errors will be even smaller.
“I think there will be a chance to look at the [first] race, in particular, review the strategy and we get another chance just seven days after, so that’s a first, and we’ll see how we tackle that challenge.”
Vettel has endured a mixed record over the years in the six races at Austria to date since it returned to the calendar in 2014, retiring twice, runner-up once, third on one occasion, as well as finishing fourth twice.
Mercedes rival Valtteri Bottas has at least had the honour of winning the event in 2017, and is looking forward to the challenge of two races at the same venue over the course of a week.
“It definitely excites me to have two races in Austria," said Bottas, in a Petronas Motorsports video.
"It’s a track I really enjoy, and normally I’ve done quite well there. So it’s a nice place to start the season."
