Ricciardo positive over Renault future after key arrival

Daniel Ricciardo says Renault's recent recruitment drive puts him in a positive frame of mind about the team's future.

The Enstone squad recently announced the appointment of former Ferrari and McLaren engineer Pat Fry as part of a "long-term plan", according to Cyril Abiteboul.

Concerns have been raised over Renault's participation in Formula 1 in the years to come as the world's largest automobile producer is undergoing a review of all its activities after recent issues at board level.

However, Ricciardo says the F1 team's continued strive to improve is exactly what he is looking for towards the end of a 2019 season that has seen Renault struggle to hit lofty pre-season targets.

"When I came into the team there were still a few moving parts," Ricciardo said

"And I think this year for sure, it still hasn't been perfect. So there's still some moving parts going on to try and, I guess, tidy some areas up.

"So I guess with Pat coming in – I haven't met him yet, I haven't worked with him before or anything – he's obviously got a lot of experience, so I'm looking forward to that.

"And I think more so just from what I see with the team in terms of them recognising there is still some, I guess places where we can be better, so the fact they are acting on that, I like that initiative from them.

"And we'll see if it's obviously, the right calls and decisions. But just taking kind of the courage to make change, I respect that."
