Kubica talks hint at F1 exit in 2020

Robert Kubica has been linked with a move to DTM in 2020, with Audi having spoken to the Pole's representatives about a switch of series.

Kubica completed a sensational return to F1 this year with Williams, having spent the previous eight years recuperating from life-altering arm injuries and proving his racing talents again.

However, the comeback has been far from a fairytale, with Williams' struggles leaving Kubica and team-mate George Russell often fighting among themselves at the back of the field.

Kubica scored Williams' only point of 2019 so far in Germany, but Nicholas Latifi has been linked with making a similar step up from his role of reserve driver next year and Kubica has previously spoken of having back-up plans in pace for 2020, one of which is reportedly a switch to German's touring car championship.

"Interesting driver for sure, for the DTM in general," Audi chief Dieter Gass said of links to Kubica.

"I personally have not spoken to Kubica, but I have spoken to his management.

"You start to see that the interest in the DTM is increasing, even in the categories that are supposed to be above the DTM, and I think this itself is a very good sign."

Kubica's sole F1 victory, and best years, came with BMW Sauber and a reunion with the manufacturer could also be possible in DTM.

BMW motorsport boss Jens Marquardt said: "People like Robert obviously have a history with BMW.

"We are over the years, with some of our guys, always in contact with him. But I think that's normal, checking throughout the years.

"It's not always talking about 'do you want to race us for next year?'"
