Brawn reveals what impresses him the most about Leclerc
F1 boss Ross Brawn reckons that Charles Leclerc’s ability to learn from his mistakes and improve is the most impressive aspect of his performances.
The 21-year-old has been superb since the 2019 summer break, winning the Belgian Grand Prix following by the Italian GP at Monza on Sunday - his first victories for Ferrari and the first of his career,
It has taken him half a season to get to grips with his new Ferrari, but has now emerged as a genuine contender for every race win.
Brawn thinks he has learned very quickly from being a rookie driver in just his second F1 year to now.
“The Ferrari man did not back down and was on the limit of what the rules allow, as great champions always are and have to be,” the former Ferrari technical boss wrote in his review of the race in Italy.
"In fact, Leclerc was also very shrewd in the way he handled the situation in that truly bizarre Q3 qualifying session on Saturday.
"Following on from his win in Spa the previous Sunday, Charles had an incredible weekend.
"The thing that impresses me most about him is how quickly he learns from everything he does, getting better all the time, as a driver and as a man."
Brawn was one of the masterminds of Michael Schumacher’s emergence as the most successful driver ever, and Leclerc provided memories of the German at the weekend as he was the last driver to win Belgian and Italy back-to-back for the Scuderia.
"The last Ferrari man to do that in these two races was Michael in 1996,” he remembered.
"Maybe history is beginning to repeat itself.”
