The Hulk to go green?
Smash.
Nico Hulkenberg has responded to speculation that he could be set to swap Formula 1 for the all-electric series Formula E by saying he is “not ready” to make the switch from the sport he has been performing in for nearly a decade.
With Renault, he and team-mate Daniel Ricciardo are not enjoying a good season despite having aspirations of bridging the gap to Mercedes, Ferrari, and Red Bull in the constructors’ championship. Instead, McLaren have claimed the moniker of the ‘best of the rest’ for the moment.
We are currently in F1’s ‘silly season’ when rumours circulate about where drivers could end up in 2020. One rumour doing the rounds is that Hulkenberg, who holds the record for the most amout of races without claiming a podium, could move to Formula E with Porsche.
However, he has played down the speculation.
“I’m not ready for Formula E yet,” he told GrandPrix247.
“I like what I’m doing.
“It will obviously depend on the opportunities available, but for now, I’m focusing exclusively on Formula 1. There are always rumours, it’s like that in F1.

“I’m still pretty confident about staying in Formula 1. There is not much that has changed since last week.”
After the opening 12 races of the 2019 season, Hulkenberg is 14th in the drivers’ championship, having accumulated just 17 points so far.
His place with Renault is reportedly under threat from Esteban Ocon, while Haas could be a potential destination for the German if Romain Grosjean instead makes the switch to Formula E.
