Canadian Grand Prix: Starting grid with penalties applied
There was no denying Sebastian Vettel a first pole position of 2019 at the Canadian Grand Prix, but the qualifying result will see some changes when converted into a starting grid in Montreal. Carlos Sainz will serve a grid penalty, while Haas' rebuild of Kevin Magnussen's car is set to necessitate a pit-lane start.
Sainz picked up a three-place grid penalty for blocking Alexander Albon in Q1, earning a customary three-place grid drop from ninth.
The Spaniard will likely end up seeing the blow softened a little once Magnussen's pit-lane start is confirmed, as it will regain him a place on the grid.
Magnussen crashed at the end of Q2, wrecking his Haas after getting out of shape while dashing to the finish line.
He was 10th-fastest when the red flags were brought out, with Red Bull's Max Verstappen among those to see efforts to get into Q3 curtailed.
The Dutchman will benefit from both Sainz and Magnussen's misfortune, climbing from 11th to ninth on the grid, with his free tyre choice remaining.
Charles Leclerc also had a visit to the stewards after qualifying, for failing to go around the bollard at Turn 9 after running wide, but avoided a penalty stronger than having his Q2 time deleted.
Drivers who do the same in the race will be given a time penalty.
