Happy birthday, Robert Kubica!
Happy birthday, Robert Kubica!
Robert Kubica's 34th birthday celebrations might be sweeter than others have been in recent years after the Pole's dream of returning to the Formula 1 grid was realised. Kubica will be an F1 racer once again in 2019 after he was handed a race set by Williams.
Kubica suffered life-altering arm injuries in a rally crash in 2011. The incident curtailed his F1 career and also denied him the chance to race for Ferrari in the 2012 season, with a deal to drive in Scuderia scarlet having been agreed.
Ferrari offered Kubica a deal to work for them next year as a simulator driver, but the pull of a race seat proved too much.
Kubica has spent 2018 as Williams' test and reserve driver, his time with the team having helped to convince them of his talents to partner George Russell next year.
As the Pole gears up for another F1 campaign, let's celebrate his big day by looking back to his previous time on the grid and his maiden grand prix victory at Canada in 2008.
