Rosberg: I don't have much hope for Verstappen
Former F1 world champion Nico Rosberg has launched another stinging attack on Max Verstappen, claiming that he has 'run out of hope' for the Dutchman in the wake of yet another incident at the Monaco Grand Prix which cost him dearly.
The 20-year-old's breakthrough into F1 has been an inexorable rise, but this season he has suffered from a series of crashes that has undermined his ability and put his position with Red Bell into sharp focus.
A mistake in qualifying sent Verstappen to the back of the grid and though he recovered to finish ninth, Rosberg had suggested that Red Bull 'must be running out of patience' with the young driver on the back of his misdemeanours.
Speaking to RTL, the German went further, suggesting that Max's driving style and approach to the sport are beyond redemption.
He said: "“He was faster than Daniel Ricciardo and then he crashed at the dumbest moment.
“He had an almost identical crash in 2016 and I wonder if Max is too confident – risking too much. If you’re doing that, there is no track that bites you in the ass more than Monaco.
“He hasn’t seemed to learn at all. It’s already the fifth time this year but it’s his fourth season in Formula 1.
“You can’t really say it’s inexperience, It’s a very dark moment for Max.
“At the moment everything is going wrong for him but I don’t have much hope for him anymore.”
Verstappen could only watch on as team-mate Daniel Ricciardo picked up the victory in Monaco from the front of the grid, leading from start to finish despite his car suffering from a 25% loss of power midway through the race.
If Max Verstappen repeats his 2016 race crash at Massenet, just you see #F1 Twitter explode... #MonacoGP https://t.co/NiJ3CVIofl pic.twitter.com/y4javBtOY3 — BWOAH RACING (@BWOAHRacing) May 27, 2018
