Verstappen: Red Bull expect Monaco success

Max Verstappen expects Red Bull to be challenging for honours at the Monaco Grand Prix. Verstappen took his first podium of the season at the Spanish Grand Prix and he believes success in Barcelona proves that the team should be strong on the streets of Monte Carlo.

The final sector of the Circuit de Catalunya is a tight, twisting section of track. In qualifying, Daniel Ricciardo put in the quickest sector time, suggesting that Red Bull should be strong at a track which is made up of this kind of racing.

Verstappen finished the Monaco GP for the first time in three attempts last year, finishing fourth behind Ricciardo and the Ferraris of Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen.

But Red Bull's step up in performance in 2018 has Verstappen dreaming of even greater things next weekend.

He said: "It was great to be back on the podium in Barcelona and our car was very strong in the last sector there, which is mainly low speed corners and what we need for Monaco.

"I also had a really positive test in Barcelona this week and hope for a good weekend in Monaco if we can find the right set-up.

"Monaco also doesn't have any long straights, so I think it should be a good circuit for us.

"It is a nice weekend in general and also very good to sleep in your own apartment, it's a busy week but also a special week.

"The track is of course very challenging but I will enjoy it even more knowing that we have a chance of a good result."
