F1 supremo Ross Brawn has been discussing the various methods that have been considered in order to increase the race excitement, and stated that slower cars would be investigated as an option if it clearly improved the experience for viewers.

With the number of overtaking manouevres significantly down year-on-year, owners Liberty Media are looking into a number of ways that the the spectacle can be enhanced.

And Brawn confirmed that all options are on the table, providing they fulfil the correct criteria.

He said: "Before we can improve the racing, we need to thoroughly understand what's going on. We can follow our gut instinct, but that's not good enough when you think about how incredibly complicated these cars are.

"Speed plays an important role and the fans want to see the fastest cars. But if we see a way to make the racing better, then I would be willing to sacrifice some speed."

Brawn also made reference to the continue use of DRS, with speculation suggesting that with so many teams unsure of its role, LIberty were considering discontinuing it.

However Brawn claimed that DRS is going nowhere - for now, at least.

He added: "In the short term we will continue to work with DRS. My hope is that the cars will develop to the point that we don't need it anymore, but in the near future that will not happen."
