Stroll confirms new approach to 'cut out mistakes' with Aston Martin

Lance Stroll has vowed to change his approach this year with Aston Martin in a bid to prevent some of the mistakes he made last season.

Following a strong start to the 2020 campaign in which Stroll scored 57 points from eight races to lie fourth in the standings, he then struggled following a heavy crash in the Tuscan Grand Prix, scoring only another 18 points in nine races to finish 11th.

Despite his problems, the second half of last year was not all bad news for Stroll as he scored his first F1 pole at the Turkish GP as well as registering the third podium finish of his Formula 1 career and his second of the year.

On his return to racing in Bahrain at the weekend, Stroll enjoyed a solid weekend en route to 10th, albeit in a car hit by the aerodynamics regulation changes that have affected downforce.

"I'm growing as a driver every year, getting more and more experience," said Stroll. "I learned some lessons last year and I'm going to, in some ways, change my approach a little bit this year to prevent some of those mistakes I made last year.

"That's the journey of being a Formula 1 driver."

Asked for details of the changes he has made, Stroll added: "Just little things when it comes to the race runs, like the long runs, and qualifying, getting the most out of the car, what I want from the balance of the car, certain changes I have to make set-up wise to get what I want and extract the most out of the car.

"Now I have a couple of years with this team I think I have a better idea of the areas I need to focus on to get the most out of my performance."
