Hamilton insists "we can't rest" after making powerful statement with Breonna Taylor t-shirt
Taylor was killed by US police in March
Lewis Hamilton has vowed there can be no rest in the fight against racism after again delivering another powerful statement before and after his Tuscan Grand Prix victory.
In the now customary pre-race anti-racism demonstration, and as he conducted his post-race tv interview and while he stood on the podium, Hamilton wore a t-shirt in support of Breonna Taylor.
The 26-year-old medical worker was shot and killed in March by plain-clothes police officers who mistakenly raided her home in Louisville, Kentucky.
Hamilton's t-shirt at the front carried the words 'Arrest the cops who killed Breonna Taylor', while on the rear there was a picture of Taylor and the words 'Say her name'.
At the end of his post-race interview, Hamilton proclaimed: "Justice for Breonna Taylor!"
Speaking later, Hamilton insisted his decision to wear the t-shirt was not a change in his anti-racism campaign bearing in mind he had previously worn t-shirts with the words 'Black Lives Matter'.
"Not much of a change," said Hamilton. "You are still fighting the same thing.
"It took me a long time to get that shirt. I've been wanting to wear that and bring awareness to the fact there are people out there being killed on the street.
"And then there's someone who was killed in her own house, and they're in the wrong house, and those guys are still walking free.
"We can't rest, we have to continue to raise awareness of it."
Referencing US Open women's champion Naomi Osaka and the seven different face masks she wore throughout the tournament, each with the name of a Black American who had been the victim of violence, Hamilton said: "Naomi has been doing amazing so huge congratulations.
"I think she's a huge inspiration with what she has done with her platform so we have to continue to push on the issue."
