Vettel "excited" by unknown future
Sebastian Vettel has conceded to being "excited" by the uncertain nature of his Formula 1 future.
The German has yet to announce where, or if, he will be racing in 2021 after it was confirmed earlier this year he will be leaving Ferrari at the end of the season.
As to what the future holds for the four-time champion, he told Sky Sports F1: “I think, exciting in the way that, when one door shuts, another one will open. Whatever that door will be, I don’t know yet. It might be staying in Formula 1, it might be racing something else, it might be saying goodbye for a certain time, for good.
“I’m not just here to participate, to be a Formula 1 driver, to make money. I am really here to achieve something, and I will see in the next time whether this is on the cards or not. I think that will drive my decision.
“Given the right circumstances, I can be as good as anyone else, but things need to be right.”
Vettel has been heavily linked with a move to Racing Point, the team set to become Aston Martin in 2021.
The team currently has contracts in place with drivers Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll for the season, but speculation continues to grow, suggesting Perez will be ousted to make room for the German.
Questioned on a potential future at Racing Point, Vettel responded: “At the moment, you look and it looks great. But I’ve been around for such a long time that you try to look beyond that in terms of seeing what might form up and what might not form up along the grid.”
